We’d like to dedicate this month’s ROK Star Update to Union County, North Carolina for their recent efforts to conceptualize, design and release a public-facing “Leisure Services” mobile web app, all within a few month’s time. The application, which was built by ROK using the ArcGIS API for Javascript and Bootstrap responsive-design framework, allows users to view mapped points of interest all over Union County--from libraries and schools/colleges, to Farmer’s Markets and Park Facilities (just to name a few). The app is interactive and provides various details (including important event and website links) relevant per each site.

One of the more exciting accomplishments of this project is that its GIS data is a “composite” of both county data and additional data compiled from 14 municipalities all throughout the county. This feat of collaboration is most note-worthy, and very much worth tipping our ROK hats off to both the Parks & Recreation Division and GIS Department staff at Union County for getting it done. Congrats!

"I really appreciated ROK’s Team taking the time to meet with us and “round table” the project to make sure that we all were headed in the right direction. Through the discussion, several good ideas surfaced and created a greater product at the end. Their customer service was great."
- Bill J. Whitley, Parks and Recreation Division Director

"Union County has been working on projects with ROK Technologies staff for over 15 years. Our collaboration has always yielded wonderful results and this project was no exception. Their insight and willingness to go the extra mile to please the customer is extraordinary!"
- Cynthia Mabry, GIS Project Coordinator
